20 When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. 18 Bethany was only a few miles down the road from Jerusalem, 19 and many of the people had come to console Martha and Mary in their loss. Come, let’s go see him.”ġ6 Thomas, nicknamed the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s go, too-and die with Jesus.”ġ7 When Jesus arrived at Bethany, he was told that Lazarus had already been in his grave for four days. 15 And for your sakes, I’m glad I wasn’t there, for now you will really believe. 10 But at night there is danger of stumbling because they have no light.” 11 Then he said, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but now I will go and wake him up.”ġ2 The disciples said, “Lord, if he is sleeping, he will soon get better!” 13 They thought Jesus meant Lazarus was simply sleeping, but Jesus meant Lazarus had died.ġ4 So he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead. They can see because they have the light of this world. Are you going there again?”ĩ Jesus replied, “There are twelve hours of daylight every day. “Rabbi,” they said, “only a few days ago the people in Judea were trying to stone you. 7 Finally, he said to his disciples, “Let’s go back to Judea.”Ĩ But his disciples objected. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.” 5 So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, 6 he stayed where he was for the next two days. 3 So the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him, “Lord, your dear friend is very sick.”Ĥ But when Jesus heard about it he said, “Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. 2 This is the Mary who later poured the expensive perfume on the Lord’s feet and wiped them with her hair. He lived in Bethany with his sisters, Mary and Martha. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’Ģ7 “Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ 29 Abraham said to him, ( E) ‘They have Moses and the prophets let them hear them.’ 30 And he said, ‘No, father Abraham but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31 But he said to him, ( F) ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, ( G) neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.11 A man named Lazarus was sick. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.Ģ4 “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and ( B) cool my tongue for I ( C) am tormented in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Son, ( D) remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to ( A) Abraham’s bosom. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, 21 desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. 19 “There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.
